Tough strenuous hike to Point Sal (PS). From PS we hiked the ridge on the Fishermans trail to a view point of PS beach. From the view point, it was a strenuous hike along over boulders. And finally a more strenuous hike uphill to a beautiful ocean view, with approximately a 3 mile hike back to the parking lot. Loved it! Beautiful beautiful hike. And of course, you don't have to hike to "the point". There are less strenuous trails for an enjoyable day out at Point Sal.

Mind blowing views of the most beautiful landscapes. Bring comfortable shoes and everything else you need for an epic hike to a secluded beach. Guessing the hike was around 11 miles each way to get to beach. Well worth the effort. This might be one of the most magical places I've ever been.

Thrilling vista and views down the coast. Be careful trying to get all the way down to the beach. One of my favorite spots to go where you can work to earn some beach privacy. Mostly a road run/walk with some excellent trail options, check them out on alltrails.

Beautiful hike, pretty strenuous though- especially on the way back out. 10 mile round trip. Nice lunch spot at the very bottom, right above the beach.

This is not a difficult hike in moderate weather. The most difficult portion is getting down to the beach, but it was doable, even with my dog. I did this yesterday and logged 10.4 miles, including my time at the beach. I saw a few people at the trailhead when I returned, but nobody on the trail or beach, which was nice. The vegetation was pretty much brown, overgrazed grass until you get to the Air Force property where there is some shrub growth, but still no trees or shade on the road.
The first leg is dirt road and it later converted to an old paved road, so this is not technically a "trail" until the very end where it is before you hit the beach. This hike is probably much more beautiful after the rains when things turn green, but the landscape is still marred by fences, signs, and installations along most of the route, and that is why I'm giving it only two stars: the landscape and trail fail to compare to other coastal trails up north or simular hikes into the Los Padres National Forest. There is just a lack of interesting features.

Every time I hike this trail it looks different. I truly love it. It’s not an easy hike. I would not recommend for children under 10. Its however a great path. Paved and gorgeous views.

Great place for a little exercise. Not as busy as some of the other spots I visited. The ticks are bad if you wander off the trail. Great place to enjoy some beach time with few to no other people.

Point Sal is well worth the hike, especially on a clear day. (I went to the point rather than the beach.) The hike itself is not as rewarding, so I can't give it five stars. The first half is more like walking along a road than a hike. The ridge trail after that is better. It's a long series of strenuous ups and downs and starts yielding great views of the Vandenberg AFB and Pismo Beach coasts if visibility is good. Finally, the point is an awesome, close encounter with geology and the power of the ocean. Plan to spend some time exploring.
